student Christmas decorated train cars

In November, District 35 art teachers and students were invited to decorate particle board trains for the Rio Rico Rotary’s 1st Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony held at Garrett’s IGA on the evening of November 25th.

Shortly after the 6 x 4-foot trains were delivered to each District 35 campus, art students and their teachers created unique designs, transferred them to their respective train cars, and painted them. The Rotary provided the materials and manpower that went into building the train, and Sodexo graciously donated the paint and brushes.

“All I can say is wow!” Those were the sentiments of District 35 Community Outreach / Co-curricular Coordinator, John Fanning when he saw finished train cars on display.

“It was a neat project and the kids got into it,” said Mountain View art teacher, Mark Dittmar

whose Cartoon Club painted a train car complete with passengers, Christmas graffiti, and a midnight snow scene. “But I hope Santa doesn’t take too much notice,” he whispered, “otherwise, next year he’ll recruit the Club for his North Pole workshop!”

Mountain View’s Cartoon Club is in its fourteenth year as a tax-credited funded, extracurricular class.

Meeting after school and during the summer, the class provides students an opportunity to rub shoulders with other art-minded children and develop their talent. For more information on how to support any of the District’s clubs with a refundable tax credit, please contact Mrs. Yamil Palafox at 375- 8270 or any school secretary.
