Santa Cruz County Fair was held at Sonoita Fairgrounds from September 16th through 18th. CtMS Art class students and FFA club members participated in various categories. Mr. Tom Mcllrath’s Art class created a collaborative art project based on the theme of “A Salute to Veterans”.
Students incorporated an eagle and a collection of American symbolism such as the tree of liberty and the original colonial snake in this salute to veterans. Talking about the art project, students Luis Wilson De Los Reyes and Martin Bojorquez shared, “we decided to incorporate/use these symbols in our project because these symbols represents a veteran's willingness to fight for everyone's freedom and symbolizes their toughness, strength and inner strength to never give up.”
According to Mr. Mac, the students decided to work on this collaborative project, “to match the required theme and at the same time, achieve at least a ribbon for the school/ district. Subsequently so, achieving the 'Best in show trophy' was a nice surprise for our students.” Reflecting on the Fair’s Art theme student Sajid Habib said, "Because they risked their lives out of respect for our country and to protect it. They are America's true heroes and everybody should be grateful for their service."
Student Brielle Bustamante felt that participating and visiting various booths at the fair provided students an opportunity to be creative and it was to see other people's art works and be inspired and know that your work might inspire others.
Mr. Mac further explained that this trip to the county fair gave students a chance to see their own art achievements on display and at the same time, cultivate that hunger for more Art achievements.
