Coatimundi middle school students recently participated in a school-wide survey, 100% of students surveyed had positive things to say about Coatimundi

Students were eager to share their thoughts and feelings regarding quarantine, remote learning, and returning to campus full-time. Eighth-grader Reese Rodriguez said, “For me, I am proud that I made the basketball team and I also made new friends. I think a challenge for me was to get good grades while we were doing on-line school. For this year I am going to keep working on getting my grades up.” Eighth-grader Daniel Woodburn stated that friendships were challenging during the Covid-19 pandemic, “A challenge for me was connecting with friends while at home. For now, I pray for all of this to be over.” Alexa Canez agreed, “One thing that was challenging for me was maintaining myself, my friendships, and my relationships. One thing that I am proud of is I am doing a lot better in school this year than I did last year.” Sixth-grader Charisma Olmos also stated that while going through a pandemic was a challenge, she is proud that she joined the band and made new friends during her first year at Coatimundi, “Now I want to focus on making myself become a better person. I want to start doing better in school too.”

Missing friends and face to face interaction proved to be difficult for most students, “The hardest thing for me in 2021 was going to school on-line. It was difficult for me to understand what to do on-line. I didn’t see my friends, and we didn’t text or talk to each other at all.” Says eighth-grader Yanel Fuentes.

For seventh-grader Saj Habib, his accomplishments are more about personal growth and maturity, “I am proud that I have become a better student. I started being more respectful and taking school seriously. A challenge for me is still talking back to adults, but I’m working on it. A goal I have is to get straight A’s. I have never had straight A’s before, this would be my first time ever!”

Overall, the students at Coatimundi are happy to be back on campus and reconnecting with friends and staff members. Forty students in sixth, seventh and eighth grade were surveyed and 100% of students had positive things to say about Coatimundi or their experiences and hard work in the classroom. Keep up the great work in 2022, Cavaliers!
